Xubuntu is an official lightweight Ubuntu flavor using the Xfce desktop environment. It maintains full functionality while consuming significantly fewer system resources than GNOME or KDE, making it an ideal choice for older hardware and low-spec machines.

Installation

Option 1: ISO Image Installation

Visit the Xubuntu website  to download the 26.04 LTS ISO image.

Option 2: Install on Existing Ubuntu

sudo apt update
sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop

After installation, log out and select the Xfce session at the login screen.

Xfce Panel Customization

Xfce’s panel system is highly flexible:

Panel Layout

The default includes a top panel and a bottom taskbar. You can:
