Wi-Fi Wireless Network Card

Check if the network card is detected

lspci | grep -i network lsusb | grep -i wireless

If there is no output, the system has not detected any wireless network card hardware.

Check driver loading status

sudo dmesg | grep -i wifi sudo dmesg | grep -i wlan ip link show

Common issue: Network card blocked by soft/hard switch

rfkill list all # If you see Soft blocked: yes sudo rfkill unblock wifi

Install missing drivers

For Broadcom network cards:

sudo apt update sudo apt install bcmwl-kernel-source

For Realtek USB network cards:

sudo apt install realtek-rtl88xxau-dkms

Restart the network service after installation:

sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager

Bluetooth

Check Bluetooth service status

systemctl status bluetooth sudo bluetoothctl

In the bluetoothctl interactive interface:

power on agent on scan on pair <MAC_ADDRESS> connect <MAC_ADDRESS>

Bluetooth adapter not detected

lsusb | grep -i bluetooth bluetoothctl list # List Bluetooth adapters (hciconfig is deprecated)

If bluetoothctl list produces no output, try:

sudo modprobe btusb sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

Sound Card

Check sound card hardware

aplay -l cat /proc/asound/cards

PipeWire status check (default in Ubuntu 26.04)

systemctl --user status pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber

If the service is not running:

systemctl --user enable --now pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber

ALSA volume check

alsamixer # Make sure the master volume is not muted (MM means muted, press M to unmute)

Reset PipeWire configuration

rm -rf ~/.config/pipewire systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber

Webcam

Check webcam devices

ls /dev/video* v4l2-ctl --list-devices

Install debugging tools

sudo apt install v4l-utils cheese

Use cheese to quickly test whether the webcam is working.

Permission issues

Make sure the current user belongs to the video group:

sudo usermod -aG video $USER # Log out and log back in to take effect

Common kernel modules

sudo modprobe uvcvideo lsmod | grep uvcvideo

If uvcvideo fails to load, check the kernel log:

sudo dmesg | grep -i uvc

General Recommendations

  1. Upgrading the kernel may resolve new hardware support issues: sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-26.04
  2. Use the ubuntu-drivers tool to automatically install recommended drivers: sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
  3. View hardware information summary: sudo lshw -short
